Based on last night’s episode, it seems as if the anti-hero Tommy Gavin’s last season is going to be emotionally tumultuous. The season premiere of Rescue Me did not even involve a fire. All of the action was rooted in the relationships and family drama due to Tommy’s wife’s surprise pregnancy and the Gavin family’s history of alcoholism.

Tommy, Shelia, and the guys of the 62 truck have been doing their best to work through the tragedy of Damian’s on the job accident and move on with their lives. Just when things had finally slowed down for Tommy both at home and on the job, a news reporter decides to feature Jimmy as the subject of her 9/11 retrospective. But when she gets too personal with the lives of her subjects and suggests fault within the FDNY, Tommy turns on her and loses his job.

With Tommy now gone, Lou at less than hundred percent, and Feinberg worsening fast, Franco takes on a leadership role implementing order unlike ever before. However, Franco lacks experience leading the troops into battle.

On the romance front, love is in the air as Black Shawn and Colleen plan an incredible wedding with the help of Mike and Garrity. Tommy and Janet see the occasion as a chance to renew their vows, Garrity has found true love, and Mickey and Sheila revive their romance.

When the crew rides to a questionable five alarm fire, their skills as firefighters and loyalty to one another are put to the test. The outcome forces the guys to re-examine what it means to be a team.

The question that has loomed over this series since Episode 1 is, will there come a day when reckless hero Tommy Gavin won’t come out of a burning building alive?
